Experiencing physics through classroom demonstrations is an integral part of the student experience in introductory physics. It is beneficial for the students to "see" the physics in action in order to reinforce new concepts. Often it is desirable for the students to observe a demonstration several times and, after subsequent study of the relevant subject material, several times again. However, with limited classroom time, most demonstrations are shown during one class period only. Providing student access, through a series of web pages, to movies and descriptions of the physical demonstrations that are shown during lecture creates new opportunities for learning and reviewing the introductory material.
These pages also provide a resource for instructors by providing a virtual catalog of available demonstrations grouped by category. The descriptions contain information on the set up and successful completion of each demonstration. With each demonstration are additional questions and exercises for the instructor to further probe the physics principle of interest.
I would like to thank Greg Reese for his tireless work in during the production of these pages. These pages were made possible by a "Provost's Instructional Innovation Grant" from the University of South Carolina.
